November 2016 I published a story about a Dutch book, De rafelranden van Europa (The fringes of Europe). The borders between the countries in the continent changed thousands of times because of wars and other political movements.
De rafelranden van Europa >
The book was illustrated with seven simple maps of Europe in different years in history, like after the disappearence of Napoleon (Congress of Vienna, 1814/15) and after World War I (Treaty of Versailles, 1915). That, however, were poor illustrations in a book where hundreds of changes of borders in nearly every year in history were discussed. At least you needed a historical atlas.
Nowadays there are more opportunities. At the Internet the art of animated maps is under development. Now all the historic changes yearly or in other episodes can be made visible at a video, eventually with some background. I used those maps in ‘De rafelranden van Europa’. It was published (in Dutch language) at the Dutch historical website Historiek.net and at my own website André Horlings Publicaties. (You could use Google Translate to read the story in your own language).
His videos can be selected like History of Nations, Historic Wars and Conceptual History like the spread of religions over the Globe, the Crusades, the exploration of the Arctic, the history of Monarchs and (much) more.
Other producers of animated maps are (among many more, see below) Emperor Tigerstar Animations of History, Suomi History of the World , GalacticPenguin TV and Jake Mapping.
In this survey a selection of animated maps, all around the world, is represented. Sometimes you can start the (YouTube) video from this page; otherwise you find links to the video.

No nation state, no matter how strong their economy, no matter how united their population, can last forever. All countries will eventually

Here are some at risk of disappearing.
